Body of Dissent
The body as archive of rebellion - form as resistance, presence as truth.
In Body of Dissent, Amel offers a visceral lexicon of rebellion not as violence, but as becoming. This collection doesn’t ask for permission; it moves. Through bold gestural forms, chromatic ruptures, and ancestral echoes, the body becomes a territory of resistance and transformation.
The works speak to the unspeakable: memory that swells beneath language, rhythm that bypasses politeness. This is protest not in slogans, but in form. A mother shape, a fleeing glyph, a clenched field - each piece insists on presence, even when presence is uncomfortable.
Amel’s materials are deceptively simple: linen, pigment, relief, clay. But within them lives a complex cosmology of dissent: feminine, North African, diasporic, intellectual, cellular. It’s an archive of what the body knows even when the mind forgets.
Each piece in this collection is a marker of defiance. But taken together, they map a journey: from coded silence to unapologetic form.
